Abstract:
This is the second of a planned series of papers on the fire endurance of concrete slabs as determined from fire tests of 3 x 3-ft specimens. The fire endurance in these tests was based on the criteria for temperature rise of the unexposed surface. In the test program presented herein, specimens consisted of two or more courses, one of which was concrete and the other was either another type of concrete or an insulating material. Included in the program were combinations of normal weight and lightweight concrete, concrete base slabs with insulating concrete overlays, concrete slabs undercoated with sprayed insulating materials, terrazzo floors, and roof slabs with and without rigid board insulation. Results of 139 tests permitted development of design charts from which the fire endurance of manycombinations of two-course floors and roofs can be readily obtained.
