Abstract:
A practical method for lateral load analysis of multistory structures comprising shear walls with sudden changes in stiffness and irregular distribution in plan, is described. The solution comprises two parts, the "basic" solution being given by horizontal collinearity of the deflection lines throughout the height of the structure, and the second "complementary" solution by a correction allowing for the fact that collinearity is confined to floor levels. A comparative example analysed by a simplified common method was by the stiffness method, and by the present approach.
