Abstract:
The interaction of bond and dowel effects in reinforced concrete is examined using the results of experiments. Little interaction is found and independent equations are proposed for the prediction of both dowel failures and bond failures of embedded bars or splices. Simple equations are derived from an assumed model of behavior. The concrete cover was found to be a major parameter. The effect of transverse reinforcement on bond capacity is included.
