Abstract:
This study evaluated the use of reclaimed ground bottom ash (GBA) and reclaimed fly ash (RFA) in concrete and compared their performance against conventional Class F fly ash (FA). GBA, RFA and FA were characterized using SEM, XRF, XRD, TGA and laser diffraction particle size analysis. Furthermore, according to ASTM C618, moisture content, LOI, water requirement, and SAI were evaluated. Beyond characterization, fresh and hardened properties of concrete incorporating different dosages of the SCMs (i.e., 10, 20, and 30% cement replacement by mass) were assessed. Slump and air content as well as 28-day and 90-day compressive strength and surface resistivity tests were conducted. In addition, shrinkage and ASR tests were conducted. All SCMs met Class F ASTM C618 requirements from tests evaluated. Furthermore, except for fresh workability, experimental results suggest that GBA and RFA perform similarly or better than FA in concrete mixtures.
