Abstract:
Even though the importance of the problem, the calculation of masonry walls subjected to lateral wind loads, has not been sufficiently discussed within the technical Literature. This subject has been avoided by all the codes until the appearance of Eurocode EC6, part 1-3. This report clarifies the criteria of available calculation methods. Furthermore, an alternative analysis for the determination of masonry stresses is discussed. This criterion combines both significant simplicity and reasonable precision, agreed at the level of knowledge available at the moment on the behavior of the masonry structures.
