Abstract:
A number of major infrastructure projects are expected to commence in the UK over the next ten years, including Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power station, Thames Tideway, HS2 and Crossrail 2. Concrete will be the predominant manufactured construction material for these schemes and its efficient production and correct use are critical to their success. Precast concrete can have health and safety, quality, cost, programme and sustainability benefits. This paper describes some of the potential roles and challenges for precast concrete and the opportunities to exploit its benefits.
