Abstract:A portion of 55 Hudson Yards, a high-rise in New York, NY, is being constructed over and supported by an existing structure. The challenge was to match the anticipated reactions of the new construction to the location and capacity of the columns of the existing structure. The design highlights are summarized and details on how the hyperstatic actions generated by post-tensioning were used to achieve the design objectives are provided.
