Abstract: This paper describes a Collaborative Research project extending from 1982 to the mid 1990s between The University of Texas at Austin and Degenkolb Engineers on methods to strengthen existing concrete buildings for improved seismic performance. James Jirsa and the author were Principal Investigators for this series of national Science Foundation projects. The paper describes the collaborative process and summarizes some of the results of these research projects.
