Abstract:
Due to the contribution that the production of concrete has on the global instability of the planet, the concrete industry is subject of a severe scrutiny from civil society. This implies that professionals linked to this industry need to create a professional environment in which the daily work of the designer solves the engineering problems involved in the design of concrete buildings, and at the same time conveys concern for the environment. This article discusses, from a structural designer’s point of view, some measures that can be taken in Mexico in order to contribute to the consolidation of a national building industry capable of successfully competing in a globalized world, and that is capable of significantly contributing to the sustain¬able development of the planet.
