Abstract:
Most engineers and builders accept that steel fibres provide some level of reinforcement for concrete and that the possibility exists to substitute fibre reinforcement for mesh. The problem that often arises, however, is how to simply and quickly determine the fibre dosage required to provide the same load carrying capacity as a mesh reinforced section and how a fibre reinforced element will subsequently perform in comparison. This paper addresses what are fundamental questions for designers and users of fibre reinforcement based on a design guideline.
