Abstract:
A number of reinforced concrete slabs were tested to investigate the effects of shrinkage on the deflection of reinforced concrete flexural members and the change in tension stiffening with time. Results show that drying shrinkage plays an important role in the time-dependent stiffness of flexural members, both before and after cracking occurs. In addition, shrinkage causes a time-dependent increase in crack widths and additional time dependent cracking which reduces the average crack spacing and is the dominant factor in the reduction of tension stiffening with time.
