Abstract:
Presents the results of a literature survey of prestressing steel failure in bridge members exposed to potentially aggressive environments. The main cause of corrosion of prestressing tendons is the ingress of moisture laden with corrosion-inducing agents. Brittle failure of reinforcing steel can occur due to pitting corrosion and two types of stress corrosion cracking (hydrogen embrittlement and fatigue corrosion).
