Abstract:
Under the sponsorship of the Department of Defense and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Materials Advisory Board of the National Academy of Sciences performed a study on the technical and institutional aspects of concrete durability. This presentation highlights the conclusions reached and discusses proposed future actions. In particular, it discusses the influences of our educational system, quality of research and development, knowledge transfer, quality of workmanship, and economic factors such as life-cycle costing and research funding on concrete durability.
