Abstract:
The Washington State Department of Transportation awarded a $26 million contract for construction of the approach and transition spans to the Third Lake Washington Floating Bridge. Construction on the four structures, which average approximately 1400 ft (430 m) in length, began in April 1985 and had to be completed by December 1987 to coordinate with other contracts. Ecological considerations caused pile driving on the project to be restricted to periods between July 15 and November 1.
