Abstract:
A one-third scale reinforced concrete pier deck model is tested to punching shear failure under a patch load representative of a crane outrigger loading. A three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis is carried out to simulate the progressive crack propagation, stiffness degradation, and mode of failure. It is shown that the numerical model is dependent on the concrete constitutive laws used in the post-cracking range.
