Abstract:
The shear-transfer behavior of post-tensioned grouted shear-key connections in precast concrete-framed structures was studied by conducting pushoff tests. The behavior of the specimens is discussed with regard to shear-slip relation, stiffness, failure mechanism, and ultimate shear strength. Post-tensioned grouted keyed connections exhibited a high degree of monolithic action and could transfer shear satisfactorily across the connection. The failure was initiated in all cases by diagonal cracking at bottom followed by spalling of joint grout. Shear strength of these connections thus depends on both the strength of grout concrete and the amount of prestress across the connections. An expression for computing the shear strength of grouted post-tensioned connection is recommended.
