Abstract:
Reinforced concrete specimens producing dowel action of beam-longitudinal bars against concrete cover at beam-column interfaces were tested. Results indicated that dowel behavior in action against the concrete cover is similar to action against the core before a split crack separates the cover from the core. After split cracking, behavior depended on the bar size, contribution of concrete cover, and stirrup location and strength. An analytical approach for predicting dowel load at split cracking is also presented.
