The successful use of concrete in construction depends not only on knowing the right proportions of materials, but also on knowing how to select the right materials. This bulletin focuses on the selection and characterization of hydraulic cements and cementitious material admixtures. Topics discussed include the manufacture, specification, and testing of portland cement, fly ash and other pozzolans, ground-granulated blast-furnace slag, and silica fume.
