Title: Some Practical Structural Applications of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete
Author(s): R.N. Swamy and Brian Kent
Publication: Symposium Paper
Appears on pages(s): 319-336
Keywords: concrete pipes; concrete slabs; cracking (fracturing); fiber reinforced concrete; loads (forces); metal fibers; mix proportioning; precast concrete; reinforced concrete; structural design
Abstract:Two field applications of steel fiber reinforced concrete are reported - one, for the deck slab for a car park in London, and the other, in concrete pipe manufacture. The basis for the design of the deck slabs, and the manufacturing details of these units are described. The results of the ultimate load and load recovery test on two sizes of slabs with varying fiber content are presented. Tests are also reported of precast concrete pipes with fiber reinforcement. The economics of fiber reinforcement is briefly discussed.
