Abstract:The paper reviews the development of the structural precast concrete industry in the U.K. over the last 15-20 years, specifically in terms of the activities of Concrete Limited, and generally as regards other companies, with particular regard to the development of an industrialized system of construction for various markets - apartments, car parks, offices, schools, etc., and flooring generally; it comments on current markets. It discusses the problems which have arisen as a result of Ronan Point and the subsquent activities including Building Regulations and existing Codes of Practice and the recently issued Unified Code based on Limit State Design. It briefly touches on differences between the U.K. and America.
