Abstract:The requirements of this chapter for combined compression and bending are in accordance with the general provisions for ultimate strength design, particularly those of Chapter 15. The equations have been given in various prublications such as those listed in the footnotes and references of this chapter. There are some differences in notations. This chapter includes an explanation of: Bending and axial load capacity of short members-Rectangular sections with bars in one or two faces; Bending and axial load of short members-Circular sections with bars circularly arranged and Bending and axial load of short members-Square sections with bars circularly arranged; Bending and axial load of short members-General case; Additional references.
