Title: Report of the Research and Development Session and Summation of the Congress
Author(s): P. Smith
Publication: Special Publication
Appears on pages(s): 1259-1266
Keywords: bearings; joint sealers; research; specifications
Abstract:Many important issues about bearings were identified by Fritz Leonhardt, keynote speaker at the Congress. His main point was that bearings should be designed and installed to function effectively for up to 100 years. Problems in achieving this goal were discussed. . .The session identified areas in which additional work is needed; these are summarized in a table. The resolution, carried during the Congress, to form a permanent technical committee on bearing systems, a companion to ACI Committee 504, Joint Sealants, is a first step in improving communications. The Congress, attended by over 300 people, was an outstanding success.
