Title: Failure of Deep Beams
Author(s): R.F. Manuel
Publication: Special Publication
Appears on pages(s): 425-440
Keywords: beams (supports); compression; cracking (fracturing); deep beams; failure; flexural strength; reinforced concrete; shear strength; structural design
Abstract:A method of predicting the capacity of deep beams is presented and compared with the prediction methods of other authors and with test results. The proposed method of shear capacity prediction is based on a web compression mode of failure rather than the usual diagonal tension mode of failure and appears to have some basis in existing test evidence. A design procedure is included.
