Abstract:
The test of a flat-slab floor of the Western Newspaper Union Building at Chicago was made in August and Septemeber, 1917. As the building was to be torn down to clear the site for the new Union Passenger Station a very unusual opportunity was afforded of testing a floor with a load well beyond the usual test load. The test of the floor was unique also in that it was made on a structure built eight years before the time of the test. The loading was carried to a point which gave markedly higher stresses than had been obtained in previous building tests.
