Abstract:
It is a great privilege, gentleman, to appear by proxy at the bar of the Institute for the purpose of telling you, in the simplest possible language, a little something of myself, and of concrete, of which I am a close associate. Until quite recently I have been taken as a matter of course. “Cement,” everybody has said, “is cement, and that’s that.” Yes, I am cement, and as such I am the heart and soul of concrete. Without me, concrete would be impossible. I am one of the most useful of our present-day construction materials, and I am literally at the very foundation of most engineering and architectural structures.
