Title: Field Control Concrete on the Delaware River Bridge
Author(s): A.W. Munsell
Publication: Journal Proceedings
Appears on pages(s): 50-66
Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to set forth the fact that even with specifications fixing the proportions for each grade of concrete, it is still possible to use the Abrams' theory, subject to the limits of your specifications, and thereby secure better concrete. As an illustration I shall use the concrete work on the Delaware River bridge now in course of construction between Philadelphia, Pa., and Camden. N. J. This is an especially good illustration because, after some unsatisfactory results, both in the appearance of the concrete and the test results, the Abrams' theory of proportioning concrete was partially adopted, and is constantly demonstrating its soundness and practicability.
