Abstract:
A masonry wall has two functions-to support and to protect. With the usual limitations of walla heights due to economy and building code regulations, a 700-lb. hollow uit or a 500-lb. brick will have a factor of safety considerably in excess of 10. Strength, however, is not the only factor to be considered in the selection of modern building materials.
