Abstract:
After 25 years in service, the Paulo Guerra Bridge in Recife, Brazil, showed significant deterioration. Alkali-aggregate reaction was determined to be the cause of the deterioration through visual inspection, nondestructive test methods, core sampling, and petrographic analysis. The results of these tests supported the selection of confinement as the repair method for the foundations.
