Abstract:
Penetration of chlorides is one of the most important causes of the deterioration of concrete structures. Chlorides induce corrosion of the reinforcement, and thus eventually delamination, cracking, and spalling of the concrete cover. It is also well established that surface scaling of concrete due to frost generally only occurs if it is exposed to deicer salts.
