Abstract:
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), with a central secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, administers the development of international standards. A subcommittee (SC) of ISO technical committee (TC) 71—SC 41—has been working under ACI Vice President James R. Cagley to develop an international standard for the design of structural concrete. ISO 19338, “Performance and Assessment Requirements for Design Standards on Structural Concrete,” is the result of 5 years of work by SC 41. This article will outline ACI’s involvement in the development of ISO 19338 and discuss what international standardization means to the concrete industry.
