Title: Silica Fume-Polymer Mortars for Rehabilitation of Bridge Decks
Author(s): Theodor A. Burge
Publication: Symposium Paper
Appears on pages(s): 1273-1286
Keywords: admixtures; bridge decks; compressive strength; silica fume; flexural strength; freeze-thaw durability; latex-modified concrete; modulus of elasticity; mortars (material); plastics, polymers and resins; Materials Research
Abstract:Covers experimental work conducted on a new combination of polymers and silica fume as an admixture to mortar and concrete that gives superior performance over conventional latex-modified concrete bridge overlays. The properties of the new system, such as compressive, flexural, and bond strengths, modulus of elasticity, water and chloride penetration, and freezing and thawing resistance, are discussed, and case studies of practical applications are presented.
