Abstract:A new design specification for two-way concrete floor slabs is presented. It is proposed as a replacement for the methods currently contained in Section 709 of the ACI Building Code (ACI 318-47). This new specification is based on analyses of continuous rectangular slabs carrying a uniformly distributed load. Account is taken of the continuity of the slab, of the torsional stiffness of the beams, and of the deflection of the beams.
