Abstract:
Synthetic expanded volcanic rock, better known as perlite is a fairly recent addition to the lightweight aggregate field. Its use in concrete is governed by weight, gradation, mixing procedure, cellular structure, strength of cell walls, insulating properties, cost, ect. Air entrainment appears to be necessary to give a workable, nonsegregating mix. Perlite aggregate blended with sand can be used in high strength structural concrete and concrete products.
