Abstract:
Cylindrical shell roofs are usally designed as thin flexureless membranes stiffened by transverse ribs or arches. In many cases, particularly when the spans are relatively small and the shell is shotcreted rather than cast in place, it is economical to extend the shell to the ground and eliminate the ribs. This paper evaluated the maximum bending moments;thrusts; and the vertical reactions due to dead load, live load, temperature variations, and wind in this type of structure.
