Abstract:
A series of tests were made to determine how concrete strength is affected by the property of the coarse aggregate measuredd by the Los Angeles abrasion test; aggregates showing rattler losses from 42 to 58 percent were compared. Test results are presented correlating resistance of aggregate to abrasion with compressive strength of concrete. Estimates are given of the additional cement required to offset strength impairment caused by the use of aggregates having low abrasion resistance.
