Abstract: The method of design given shows that economy can be achieved in pre-stressed concrete bridges with two stiffened exterior beams and several interior beams supporting a floor slab and interconnected by transverse diaphragms. The exterior beams are stiffened by using the sidewalks as structural members and can easily be constructed as composite beams with a cast-in-place topping.
