Abstract:
Attention is given mainly to the physical erosion of concrete in hydraulic structures resulting from particles carried by flowing water and from pitting resulting from cavities forming and collapsing in water flowing at high velocities. Disintegration of concrete by chemical attack as may occur in hydraulic structures is also discussed. Materials, mix proportions, and construction procedures which will make concrete more resistant to erosion are presented. Means of improving concrete resistance to chemical disintegration are also discussed.
