Abstract:Eleven concrete beams with regular tensile reinforcement were tested under repeated load applied 320 times per min. The beams were identical except for a slight increase in concrete strength during the period of testing. The ACI elastic-design load for the test beams was 2610 lb. The ultimate load was 8800 lb. The load causing fatigue failure in 500,000 cycles was 5720 lb. Thus, the ultimate load was 3.37 times the design load and the fatigue load was 2.18 times the design load.
