Abstract:
Experiments were conducted on 33 reinforced concrete beams to investigate the behavior and shear strength of haunched beams. Some beams were of constant depth, others had linearly varying depths along the shear span. Cracking load in shear was calculated using maximum tensile strength criteria. Concrete’s contribution in shear was determined by two different methods, the equilibrium of vertical forces and equilibrium of moments. Experimental results were correlated with angle of haunch inclination. A formula is proposed for the design of reinforced concrete haunched beams in shear.
