Previous values for effective width coefficients of flat plate structures are compared to those obtained using a finite element model, suggesting a modification for the rigid column model in the series solutions. A table of modified effective width coefficients is presented. effective width coefficients for flat plates with drop panels of two sizes and various thicknesses are given in charts. They allow rapid quantification of the considerable stiffening effect of drop panels.
