Abstract:
Learn the fast-track repair and rehabilitation of bridge decks. The William Preston Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge (Chesapeake Bay Bridge) is a major dual-span bridge in the state of Maryland. Spanning the Chesapeake Bay, it connects Queen Anne’s County with Anne Arundel County. The bridge deck had reached the end of its service life and was severely deteriorated, presenting a safety risk. In one section, 75% of the lane was repaired. Delaying this critical work would have resulted in a lengthier, costlier and more extensive project. Latex-Modified Concrete was placed. The concrete mixture provided low chloride ion permeability, corrosion resistance, and fast strength gain. The concrete was mixed and discharged at the point of placement using volumetric mixer trucks.
