Abstract:
The new edition of the Eurocode 2 (EC-2) for the design of concrete structures challenges all the different national codes to try to converge towards it. For the Ultimate Limit State of shear for elements without shear reinforcement the EC-2 adopts the current expression of the Spanish EHE Code with minor amendments. However, for elements with shear reinforcement, the formulation proposed by EC-2 is a varying angle truss model without concrete contribution. It is the authors? opinion, that these simplifications may neglect some of the important parameters affecting the mechanism of shear strength. For this reason, this paper presents a new proposal for shear design of reinforced and prestressed elements for its possible inclusion in the EHE Code. For beams without shear reinforcement, the proposed method is practically identical to the EC-2 procedure but, for beams with web reinforcement, it is proposed a model that verifies compatibility between bending moment, axial force and shear strength.
