Abstract:
This paper deals with a research project developed at LABEIN, Technological Centre, between 1993 and 1997. The project aim was to develop a high strength concrete (HSC) using only limestone aggregates, fine and coarse, in order to study the effect of the limestone filler (particles < 80pm) in the concrete compressive strength. For the different concrete components, these were the dosages used: cement = 400 / 600 kg/m3; silica fume = 5%o / 15% by weight of cement; superplasticizer = 1%o / 3% liquid mass by weight of cement. With all these components, concrete was manufactured with diferent dosifications in order to study the effect of the filler in them. Filler contents were of 8% / 20% by weight of sand, and the final compressive strengths obtained were studied to determine if a limitation of the filler content is needed and which would be the maximum percentage allowed.
