Abstract:
The internal pore structure of concrete significantly affects the transport of heat and chemicals, including chloride penetration. This paper examines the coupling effect of temperature variations on chloride penetration in concrete, considering the complex nature of its pore structure. To characterize the simultaneous transfer of heat and chloride ions, a modified version of Fick’s first law is employed to describe both fluxes. A theoretical model is developed that incorporates the multiscale and multiphase characteristics of concrete, using the Generalized Self-Consistent Model to determine the effective thermal conductivity. Based on the results for the thermal conductivity coefficient, a material model for the coupling parameter is formulated. Validation against available experimental data shows good agreement in predicting heat transfer and chloride concentration profiles, demonstrating the accuracy and reliability of the developed model.
