Abstract:
This paper addresses the results of extensive experimental and
numerical research on anchors loaded in shear close to the edge of a concrete member that was part of a doctoral dissertation published in 2012 (Grosser). The portion of the research that addresses concrete edge breakout of single anchors loaded in shear is described and the implications for code provisions addressing anchors in shear are discussed. Modified basic shear provisions are proposed for establishing the concrete breakout strength of anchors subjected to shear loading at an arbitrary angle of attack with respect to the near edge (oblique shear).
