Abstract:
One of Orson Squire Fowler’s many interests was to make houses available for common people and allow them the pleasure of building their own homes. He built a gravel wall house using only locally available materials, and he believed that the octagon house with gravel walls would serve his purpose. About 1000 octagon houses were eventually built by the early 1900s.
