Despite various uses of slab-wall connections, studies considering deformation capacity are limited. Cyclic loading tests were performed as part of this study on removable rail mechanical splices.
For comparison, connections without splices were also tested. Tests conducted indicated that connections using rail mechanical splices showed flexural behavior comparable to monolithic connections and other mechanical spliced connections. Energy dissipation capacity was achieved and acceptance criteria per ACI 374 satisfied in regard to strength, stiffness, and energy dissipation.
