Abstract:
The article quantifies approximately the reliability indices and associated probabilities of failure for the critical demand-capacity ratios (U/R) provided in Chapter 4 and Appendix A of ACI 562-16. The goals are to inform users of the ACI 562 standard about the impact of these ratios on structural safety, provide insight on how the ratios were developed, and demonstrate the reduction in structural reliability as U/R increases from 1.0 to 1.5.
