Abstract:
Presented in this work is an effective and innovative optical arrangement based on diffuse reflection to determine the setting properties of cement paste samples of different mixtures. The reflected diffused light of a laser beam was captured by optoelectronic sensors to obtain reflection changes due to microstructural changes of cement hydration during the setting process. In addition, temperature measurements were carried out during the hydration process. Continuous monitoring of such variations allowed the authors to obtain the setting characteristics of the cement mixture, thus providing a simple and novel technique of practical importance in the field of civil engineering.
