Abstract:
The punching shear behavior of steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) slabs with or without traditional steel bar reinforcement was investigated. Test results of 26 SFRC slabs with traditional steel bar reinforcement reported in the literature and 12 slabs without steel bars tested in this study were analyzed. The test parameters covered different multi-hook end fibers, concrete compressive strength, fiber reinforcing index, and slab thickness. The statistical performance of eight existing models for predicting punching shear capacity of SFRC slabs was reviewed. A modified model that is applicable for both SFRC slabs with or without steel bars is proposed and it was found to predict the punching shear capacities of the SFRC slabs with good accuracy. The load-carrying capacity of SFRC slabs without steel bars was also assessed by the yield line theory. It is observed that the SFRC slabs with steel bar reinforcement experienced either a punching shear or a flexural punching mode of failure, whereas those without steel bars failed primarily in flexure.
